How I learned to get on the first page of Google within 2 hours

I’m excited because I did something that seemed almost impossible to achieve. Imagine you’re told getting on the first page is possible but it’s really difficult. But today I did something that I have been trying to do for years!

Therefore when I say I was able to show up on the first page within 2 hours its not to brag but to share how unbelievable I thought that this would be for me. I’ll explain what my original goal was and how I ended up on the first page.

I’ll also give a disclaimer that I wasn’t trying to do this so fast but the fact that I saw results so quickly is amazing. I will break down a little bit of what I did but I am still learning exactly how it works so I will be experimenting to prove if this method is true and works every time.

How it started

To begin, the problem really came up at work. My boss wanted me to help increase traffic (get more visitors to the website) organically. I had a little bit experience but I was trying other methods to grow like Pinterest and Instagram. When it came to Google it felt like I was facing a monster. I didn’t know how to approach it but I decided try again and do some research.

My original plan began with searching how to increase traffic organically. This led to some ideas about answering questions people had about a specific topic that google suggested. This was nothing new I haven’t heard before but this one idea kind of led me down a rabbit hole.

I began to wonder how I can use these questions as a tool to really optimize a blog post.

My experience

Now I am no newbie when it comes to the idea of SEO and I’m well aware of a very famous wordpress plugin to check if your post is SEO optimized.

However in the past I didn’t see any results from my efforts (perhaps I wasn’t doing it right).

But I decided to give it another go, learn, and test if I could create a fully optimized blog post. My goal was not to get it on google’s first page but to at least be recognized on Google and overtime get some traffic flowing to the page.

In my studies I heard it takes about 3–6 months to see organic growth. So I was prepared to play the long game and wait, but I think I still had some questions in the back of my mind. Questions like… does it really take that long to see results and how do I know if it is working.

How I did it

So from my research I found how to take common questions people have asked on google and structure it properly within my writing. I learned that 3 important places you need to have your “keyword” or “keyword phrase” is in the title, your url, and the intro paragraph of your article.

I looked for the best way to do this and did more research. Then I learned to include related questions to the main topic within the article.

Another goal of mine was to try and get my checklist from the Yoast plugin to be green. I was going to try my best and check off all the points it suggests to do.

I thought if they have been doing this for years then there must be something there doing right. When I was finished, I wasn’t 100% perfect, but I got my score to be green, and I fulfilled the top 3 factors where to place the keyword.

I then published the blogpost.

I was gonna stop there but then I remembered the google search console.

On there you can request a page to be indexed so that google can crawl your page and see that you have listed that new page.

I thought I understood what that meant, as google will recognize your page but then I thought to myself…

“how long will it take for it to really show up on google?“

After making the request I had some other work to do and some time passed by and I then remembered the post I published. While I was thinking of other ways to push that post to get more traffic to it, another thought came to me…

“Wait can’t you check if your page really is on google by searching for that page by the keywords?”.

It seemed like the most simple answer, how to check if your page is on google but who knew what I was going to see.

I typed in the keywords for what I used as my focus phrase for the article and to my surprise it came up.

Now I know that on whichever internet browser you’re using, results can be biased based on what you already searched for and the sites you’ve visited. So when I saw that my article was showing up on the first page I was excited and skeptical at the same time.

I had to test if my findings held true.

It was off to the incognito window.

This option gives me the ability to see unfiltered and unbiased results as a totally fresh page with no cookies or anything saved. Again as I scrolled I couldn’t believe my eyes…

There was my article on the first page.

I had to make sure and did another check and went on a separate device and again went into incognito mode.

Success! The article came up on the first page.

Did I really do it?

Granted it came up by typing the exact phrase I used to write the article, but I got that phrase directly from Google’s auto suggestion as well as people also ask.

Therefore, that tells me, if Google suggests it there is high probability that people will click on that search phrase as well as a higher potential google will be showing it because it is a common question being asked.

Now what’s next is waiting to see in the next few weeks how much traffic this method will bring to the companies site.

Again this was only the first test but now my goal is to test and replicate my findings and see if I am able to get on the first page again with other search terms.

Also I am writing out the full process as a step by step guide for myself so I know exactly how to replicate it.

I have struggled for years trying to rank on google and learning how to get organic traffic to my website. I did it with pinterest but If I could do this with google this would really be a game changer.

If this sounds interesting to you and could help you then stay tuned for my next results and step by step guide.

What I learned

  1. Follow instructions: If the Yoast SEO plugin suggests it then it is probably best to follow what it says.
  2. Learn to talk the language of the computer: Although you’re writing for people to read and understand, I realized you have to talk to the computer in a way that it understands (sad that I missed this since I learned how to code). Providing the answers that google is looking for and formatting it in a way it understands gives you a higher chance to rank and deliver your content to people who are looking for the answer.
  3. Nothing is impossible: Don’t be afraid to try and fail. I did my research, took my time, implemented the strategies I learned and am testing to see what works. Then it’s just analyzing my results and replicating it. Even though one person says it’s hard or difficult it doesn’t mean you can’t do it. I believe if a man did it then it definitely can be replicated. Sometimes it’s just a step by step process.
